On the Web, the correct combination of simplicity, balance, usability and elegance spells success.

It is a well-known fact among leaders in any field of design that simplicity and balance are essential elements of effective design. Yet in Web design these factors are especially important, as they can easily mean the difference between a site's success and failure.

A random tour through the World Wide Web will demonstrate clearly that the fundamental design principles of simplicity, ease of use and balance are the exception rather than the rule for most Web designers; information clutter awaits at every turn. Just ask yourself a simple question: How many times have you visited a site and been confused or frustrated by the navigational system, layout, or general clutter?

This is not to say that a Web site should not be large and full of content, but rather that information must be arranged in a way which makes it clear, logical and easily accessible. The larger a site becomes, the more essential it is that these fundamental design principles be strictly upheld.

The age in which we live is one in which it is easier to access information than ever before in our entire history; this is, indeed, the "Information Age." Luxury as this may be, with regard to your Web site this poses some very real challenges which must be considered, such as the following points:

  • Visitors are less patient. With so much information out there, studies have shown that Web surfers are becoming increasingly impatient and that confusing interface design and long page-loading times are likely to send them away.
  • Visitors get exhausted more quickly and easily. The human brain can only process a given amount of information within a certain period of time. This means that a page overloaded with information will at best overwhelm its visitors, and at worst exhaust them and drive them away from your site.
  • Visitors are less tolerant of "useless" and frivolous information. When a visitor arrives at a site, he or she more often than not has an objective in mind and wants to be able to find what he or she is looking for quickly. Anything which may hinder this objective does not belong on the site.

We take these and many other issues very seriously and are committed to creating innovative, easy-to-use, aesthetically balanced, and ultimately effective Web sites. We are experienced in all facets of Web site creation - from classical design, to information architecture, to e-commerce - and are aware of its many potentials and, just as importantly, limitations. Examples of sites which hold true to these principles can be found in our portfolio.

First Impressions Matter

A visit to a Web site is more than a simple search for information; rather, it is an experience in itself. Just as the binding, layout, font choice and other formatting and publishing choices affect the experience of reading a book, so also do a wide variety of factors affect the experience of visiting and navigating through your Web site. What it all comes down to is rather simple: do you want your visitors to have a unpleasant and frustrating experience on your site or an enjoyable and memorable one, which will draw them back on their own accord?

In an age of information overload, your visitors need a well-balanced, organized and comfortable place in Cyberspace to take shelter. And if you are among the few who can provide this with your site then you can be certain, as you will see from the success of your site, that they will truly be grateful.
